Along the drive from San Diego to Los Angeles last month we stopped at the Children’s Pool in La Jolla. Originally created as, well, a children’s pool, the ocean wildlife quickly discovered the wonderful calm beach and took over.

Many seals and birds were sleeping on the beach and out on the rocks in the small cove. The larger seals lazed about while many of the smaller fellows, like the one seen above, would run, jump, splash, and play around them, sometimes earning a swat for their troubles!

Here’s a quick behind-the-scenes shot by my lovely wife Crista. Note the crazy tripod angles, reason #284,104 why a great tripod is worth its weight in carbon fiber.

Keeping the tripod needlessly out of sand. No point in having to wash it out unless I have to!
