I love this tree. It grew up on the banks of the headwaters of the Skunkamaug River. Years ago, it was blown down, then grew up again at a 90 degree angle from the original growth. Last fall it blew down yet again, and is now growing again at another 90 degrees offset from the original growth.

Gnarly AND persistent.
